Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Manage commercial kitchen: o Plan, prep, cook and serve alongside volunteers as needed. o Plan, prep, cook and train volunteers monthly at scheduled orientation. o When needed/requested support nightly meals by meal planning, prepping a main dish and/or sides using existing food resources. ▪ Communicate promptly these meals to Volunteer Coordinator for use by volunteers to ensure no food is wasted. o Manage inventory for kitchen including ordering supplies. ▪ Keep Supervisor apprised when stock is low on regularly used items. o Keep kitchen clean, organized and stocked – See check sheet to ensure all tasks are addressed. o Keep kitchen items accessible and in good working order. Order supplies such as trays as needed. o Organize donated food including properly storing and labeling sandwiches and desserts. o Move food to front/top as needed for access to volunteers. ▪ Ensure food is rotated so older is used first. o Pick up and shop for food as needed in coordination with Volunteer Coordinator and Supervisor. o Track and prepare Grab & Go meal kits to ensure they are available in an emergency. ▪ Check expiration dates and notify Volunteer Coordinator when new supplies are needed. • Serve as the primary point of contact for food donations and deliveries. o Coordinate with Volunteer Coordinator or other staff for on-site support for food deliveries/ food in stock questions. • Support volunteers as needed under the direction of Volunteer Coordinator. o Meal planning, food prep, defrosting meat, etc. • Perform other related duties as required. • Assist as a team member with other community events and responses.

Requirements

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Valid WA State drivers license and ability to be covered by organizational insurance. • Ability to obtain food worker certification. • Must have regular and consistent access to email for staff updates. Must check emails regularly enough to be kept up to date on any policies or issues related to the job. • Must have regular and consistent access to a personal phone so supervisor can follow up after hours as needed for shift changes, emergencies and volunteer follow up. ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS: • Education: no requirement • Experience: Minimum one year experience working in a commercial kitchen. Experience working with volunteers preferred. • Faith: Holds a personal Christian faith or are able to work in harmony/concert with our Christian mission. • Licensure/certification: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid food handler’s permit. Valid driver's license. • Other Qualifications: Ability to work collaboratively in a chaotic environment. Strong communication skills. Experience with low-income, and/or homeless adults.
