Prompt: Think of a moment today when someone you helped showed you something about themselves—a strength, a kindness, a resilience—that reminded you why this work matters; what did you notice, and what does it mean to you?
One of my fondest memories from NCCC was working alongside a retired carpenter who still came in every Saturday to help cut lumber. He would spend hours doing beautiful, careful work while patiently teaching volunteers how to use power tools and helping them build confidence along the way.
There was something quietly powerful about his dedication. He didn’t have to be there, but he showed up anyway, week after week, giving his time, skill, and steadiness to everyone around him. That kind of service stays with you.
